About Kelly

I am a trained labor doula completing my certification through Birth Arts International. I am also doing an internship with Pam Perry of Doula Grannies. Pam has been a doula for over 30 years and I could not pass up the opportunity to learn from her!

I am a certified rebozo instructor in the Gena Kirby Rebozo Method. I attended a 4 day retreat with Gena in Austin. I met some incredible women and had an amazing experience learning about the rebozo. During the retreat I attended talks with Joe Valley of Empowered Papa and Patrick Houser of Fathers To Be. I also attended a later workshop with Gena called Birth Heart and Intuition. It focused on the holistic stages of labor and offered a great new perspective. I am so grateful to have learned from Gena and for her introduction to rebozo. It is an amazing birth tool that can provide comfort and stability throughout labor. I teach classes on rebozo and of course bring my knowledge to the births I attend.

I am also Dad certified with Joe Valley. Joe’s class focused on communication with both fathers and mothers. Sometimes so much emphasis is put on the mother, that the dad can get left behind. Men and women can have very different views on birth. The Dad Certified class has provided me with some invaluable tools on working together with both parents so that everyone feels comfortable and informed moving forward with whatever birth plan they choose.

Being a military wife, I offer extra services to military families with deployed spouses. I am a proud volunteer with Operation Special Delivery. The goal of OSD is to provide doula services to wives of spouses who are deployed or have been seriously injured in the line of duty. I also offer extra postpartum services free of charge.

I know some ASL and offer discounted services to families with hearing difficulties. I attended 4, 12 week long classes at the Deaf Action Center in Shreveport. They were ASL 101, 102, 103, and 201. While I may not be fluent, I can converse fairly easily and know most common signs. While I cannot stand in for a professional interpreter, having a new baby is challenging enough without the added stress of a language barrier.

I also offer placenta encapsulation.

Since completing my training in April of 2014, I have attended over 10 births from water birth, natural hospital birth, and medicated hospital birth. Personally, it does not matter to me what kind of birth you choose. My belief on birth is that every woman should be respected in their choices. I love natural birth, but I would much rather a mother be happy in their birth at the end of the day. My goal is to help every woman achieve the birth they envision.
